Saturday Afternoon & Evening Convention Releases

Saturday afternoon at the convention was spent releasing books. I wanted to be sure to ship back the books I had "caught" so I walked 18lbs of books 8 blocks to Kinkos.

While MsPooh, EllyMae58, SandDanz, and JenDudley were running around to bookstores...be sure to ask JenDudley about her shopping extravaganza...I did a few wild releases in Downtown Ft. Worth.

I only photographed one which as in the back of a car on display at the NASCAR festival.

JenDudley, Rhonda, and I had dinner at a great little TexMex restaurant on Main St - Mi Cocino (Jen, is that right?). There were lots of Margaritas...but I'm going to let the photos speak for themselves. (Although the most incriminating ones are missing from my camera.)

The man in the photo is Jorge.

Back at the hotel, SandDanz shows off the books that she has "caught" so far!

The "old lady" in the group quickly called it a night; while SandDanz and JenDudley went searching for more books!

Okay...that may have been too much!

Reno talks about the future of BookCrossing.com

Heather thanks the people who made the 2005 BC Convention possible: JennyO, Sonora, TexasWren, and First-Noel

There is apparently some forum joke about a squirrel that is being passed around among BookCrossers. FatBastard (the squirrel) arrived at the convention. Cheesy was apparently drawn to the latest attendee.

Foxy and Spike Jr. had to get in on the action as well!

Future BookCrossers also attended the Convention!

Noumena12 releases The Intruders at the Chevy/GMC vehicles during the Nascar Festival

Okay...looks like I'm caught up with my journal...back to more releases!

A Look Back: The Ice Breaker

Everyone who is anyone turned out for the Ice Breaker in the hotel bar!

MsPooh and EllyMae58 brought "Happy Reading" pens for EVERYONE!! Thanks!

MrNelle was there

SandDanz looks like she is having a good time...Of course she'd been hitting that bottle of Rum in our room!

SandDanz and MojosMom

JenDudley hanging out at the bar with CoffeeBeaned

Cheesy Jr. was hanging out with MsPooh...that's sure to lead to trouble

Sure enough...there they are trying to steal the door prizes

No BC Convention is complete without BOOKS
There were plenty of books available...

Skyring joins MrNelle in sifting through the books available

Foxy makes a new friend from Down Under...Bilbo Kiwiberry

Apparently, Foxy also found a book

No BookCrossing event is complete without...
...Reno (talking to JFroebe)...

...And Bruce and Heather

Of course EVERYONE wanted to meet them and talk to them!
Reno talking to CoffeBeaned with MsPooh while SandDanz and EllyMae58 wait (patiently???)

SandDanz and JenDudley share the pictures from their Christian Singles release with Heather

And of course there were door prizes! Thanks to TexasWren who arranged for the prizes!
First-Noel and TexasWren drew names

Noumena12 won the first door prize! But there were lots of other winners too!

By the end of the night...Foxy and Spike Jr. were a little out of control

A Look Back: Friday Afternoon

I'm going to do a series of posts. I'm trying to do my best to keep track of the BCers I meet...but I'm failing miserably. If you are someone (or know someone) in my pictures and I haven't properly identified you (them), let me know and I will correct it.

SandDanz Arrives

After JFroebe (aka G.O.D.), Shendoah, and Tzurriz followed us around for 2 days, we finally sat down in the lobby to talk.

JFroebe

SandDanz and ShenDoah

?? and Sonora join us

Spike Jr. and SandDanz head out for dinner

Spike Jr. and Foxy get a little carried away at dinner
It started innocently enough...

Foxy was the first to get into the adult beverages

Spike Jr. wasn't going to be left out

Eventually it turned into something else when Cheesy decided to join them

And this all happened BEFORE the Ice Breaker!

Just a quickie...

end of the day blog. I've got lots of great pictures from the IceBreaker this evening. Foxy, Cheesy Jr., and Spike Jr. all had a great time...although they weren't all that well behaved. Foxy hooked up with some guy while Cheesy and Spike may have been off sneaking some alcohol. Cheesy Jr. may have been seen hanging out with Ron.

Okay...it's only the first day and I have more books to take home than I brought. JenDudley and I each won a door prize tonight. I got 5 books from BC authors while JenDudley got books from Texas authors. I journaled a bunch of books today...too many to post here.

I'm trying to get a little reading done while JenDudley and SandDanz are off running the halls. I'm off to read some more...If I find high speed access tomorrow, I'll post some great pictures!

Eating, Reading, and BUYING books

Okay...so after breakfast at Corner Bakery...two very full bookcrossers headed to Barnes & Noble of course. JenDudley wanted to BUY books...me, just looking for highspeed internet access. JenDudley bought three new books. I released Aphrodite's Secret and read a little.

We've now moved to Starbucks where I have *found* highspeed internet access. It feels so good. Jen is releasing Vinegar Hill while we are here. She's sitting here taking pictures of the books she bought. Hmmmmm. Maybe I'm boring her.

Oh! We went to the Schokoland Chocolate Factory and bought CHOCOLATE!

SandDanz, MsPooh, and EllyMae58 should be here soon! More later!

SandDanz called at 8am

it's 8:30 and she's now called twice. She is safely in Detroit. Trying to make her way through the airport...complaining about having to walk to gate 74. And she is passing up $6.00 NEW red dress ink. Oh, and she doesn't want JenDudley and I to have any fun until SHE gets here. Of course, we won't SandDanz!

Okay...here is the picture I promised of JenDudley sleeping with her book. Shhhhhh! Don't tell her, she doesn't know I took this.

I finished Love Medicine last night. Yes, SpikesMom, I promise to write a nice journal entry. And have started reading Riding in Cars with Boys.

Need to take a shower and get some reading done. It's looking a little overcast today....hopefully it won't rain!

Nascar Freaks and Bookcrossing Geeks

*No offense to Nascar or Bookcrossing Fans...I thought it just sounded good!

There is a Nascar race in Ft. Worth this weekend and the racing fans are in town. It was Nascar Fan Appreciation Day at the Ft. Worth Convention Center today. And the square looks like it is all set for a party.

When I got back to the room this afternoon, I found JenDudley sitting on the floor cutting packaging tape with cuticle scissors?! She was taping bookcrossing labels on the books she plans to release this weekend.

So JenDudley and I headed out after a little reading this afternoon to walk Downtown Ft. Worth and get something to eat and drink. Walking through the lobby I got my first catch of the weekend The Accidental Virgin. I also released my first book of the weekend...The Inheritance.

NYC had painted cows. Cincinnati had flying pigs. Apparently, Ft. Worth has topiaries. Again, who knew? Check out these photos:
Jen with the bull
Rodeo

Finally, because I'm sure you all are concerned about my internet access withdrawl...I am currently using dial-up access in the hotel room. Can I just say that it is unbelievably slow!!!! It has taken me hours to upload the photos so I can use them. But I know that you are anxious to experience this weekend with us...so I'll take one for the team!

JenDudley's already asleep...have great photo of her sleeping with her book...but won't take time to upload it now but look for it soon!

I've Arrived!

I am here! There is only one problem. My hotel room doesn't have highspeed internet access. Aaaghhhhhhh! I'm not sure I will know what to do. (BTW: Just realized I started blogging before even checking my email. What does that say? Let me know!)

So, I'm sitting in this "saloon" called Billy Miners. Good Beer! Good Burgers! High Speed Internet Access! Way to go Billy! Unfortunately it is about 15 blocks from the hotel. (If there is someone staying at the hotel on the 12th floor and you read this, I want to be your friend!)

I left Dayton Wednesday morning to go to DC for training. (4am wakeup for 6:30am flight. I HATE mornings. Are you listening JenDudley? SandDanz?) Started reading Thin Skin which I finished on the airplane from DCA to DFW.

I'm currently reading Love Medicine which I got from SpikesMom on a relay. I'm off to do some more reading and check my email.

I've been checking the (wish)list...checking it twice..

Find out who's been naughty and nice. Okay, not really. But I did have books available that were on their wishlist.

Full Circle by Karen Young (MsPooh)
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold (Shendoah)
Good Girls Gone Bad by Jillian Medoff (EllyMae58)
The Switch by Sandra Brown (SandDanz)
Silk Lady by Gwen Davis (SandDanz)
Sleeping with Your Gynocologist by Marc Jaffe (SandDanz)

Hmmm....Hope I didn't forget anyone!

Thursday, April 07, 2005

It's almost time...preparations are underway!

I've just made plans to share a room with JenDudley and SandDanz! Be afraid, be very afraid!

I've started selecting books to take with me...these are books that I want to read while I'm traveling but I'm definitely not bringing home! Here they are in no particular order:
Thin Skin by Emma Forest
Outcast by Josephing Cox
Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich
Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquirel
Beach Girls by Luanne Rice
More Than Friends by Barbara Delinsky
Riding in Cars with Boys by Beverly Donofrio
The Troublemaker by Robert McKay
Aphrodite's Secret by Julie Kenner
Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy
The Kitchen God's Wife by Amy Tan
Her Mother's Shadow by Diane Chamberlain
The Inheritance by Antoinette Wrighton

That should be enough to read!!! A little too ambitious????

Getting Ready

I'm creating this journal to post my experiences and photos from the 2005 BookCrossing Convention in Ft. Worth Texas. I will arrive in Ft. Worth on Thursday 4/14 and will head home again on Sunday 4/17.

If you aren't familiar with BookCrossing, visit www.bookcrossing.com or you can visit my BookCrossing Bookshelf at noumena12.bookcrossing.com.

BTW: This is my FIRST journal...it will be an experience!
